The Egyptian and His Neighbour – A Tale of Plague and Freedom

Thursday, July 30 at 7pm

This inspiring story from Rumi derives from the Masnavi, the Sufi mystic’s vast verse epic which collects some of the most celebrated stories from the Sufi tradition. The tale turns on the expectations listeners may have of the popular narrative of the Plagues of Egypt.

Told by storyteller Ariel Balevi, accompanied by improvisations by Sina Bathaie (santur).

Ariel Balevi dedicates this performance to the memory of Sol Benba Balevi, 1930–2019.
